The search for a missing Marshfield man ended Sunday afternoon with the recovery of a body from Bull Shoals Lake.
Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander said the body was found around 3:15 p.m. in the Camp Galilee Cove area. Authorities believe it is that of 25-year-old Caleb Blair of Marshfield.
According to the sheriff, Blair had been staying at a resort near the lake with family members. He reportedly left around 6 a.m. Saturday to go fishing.
Investigators believe Blair was fishing from a small watercraft when a severe thunderstorm moved through the area.(C
Family members reported him missing at about 11:30 a.m. on June 13 after he failed to return.
What followed was a large search effort involving multiple agencies from both Arkansas and Missouri. Marion County Sheriff's deputies were joined by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Newton County Sheriff's Office and members of the Christian Aid Ministries Search and Rescue Team.
By Sunday afternoon, search crews made the difficult discovery.
The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. Sheriff Alexander said the case will be forwarded to the State Medical Examiner's Section of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further investigation.
For many in Marshfield, the news brings heartbreak and a sobering reminder of how quickly conditions on the water can change.
