Golfers have a chance to hit the links while helping support some of Marshfield's favorite community traditions.
The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Marshfield Classic on Saturday, June 20, at Whispering Oaks Golf Course. This year's tournament will feature a new format, switching from a two-person scramble to a three-man scramble.
Rachel Andrews with the chamber said the event serves as the organization's only fundraiser of the year.
The money raised helps support community events such as the Fourth of July Parade, Breakfast with Santa and the Marshfield Christmas Parade.
"It's a way that we can raise funds so that we can do fun things for the community," Andrews said.
Golfers can choose from two tee times, with one beginning at 8 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $500 per three-person team and includes tiger drives and mulligans.
In addition to the golf itself, players can take part in several games throughout the course, including a casino hole. Andrews said one of the tournament's biggest draws is its cash payouts, with winners in multiple flights taking home prize money.
The event also includes a shootout competition with top prizes totaling thousands of dollars.
Teams are still being accepted. Those interested in registering can visit discovermarshfield.com and click on the events tab for more information.
For Andrews, the tournament is about more than golf. It's another way for the community to come together and help make Marshfield's biggest celebrations possible.
