The Marshfield Blue Jays baseball team wrapped up one of the best seasons in program history this spring.
Head Coach William Pate said the season ended in the Class 5 quarterfinals with a best-of-three series loss to Willard. Even so, the Blue Jays finished with a 28-12 record, setting a new school record for wins in a season.
Marshfield also captured its second straight district championship and finished third in a tough conference that included teams such as Carl Junction, Rogersville, and Bolivar. Along the way, the Blue Jays earned wins over larger Class 6 programs, including Glendale and Joplin.
Pate credited much of the team's success to its senior leadership. Carson Adams, Hunter Fryman, Carter James, and Keegan Reynolds combined for 15 varsity letters and provided experience that helped guide the program throughout the season.
Offensively, Marshfield was led by Case Steinbach, Adams, Reynolds, Jayce Bedke, and Fryman. On the mound, Adams, Fryman, Bedke, and Caleb Casper played key roles.
Looking ahead, Pate said the future remains bright. The Class of 2027 is expected to be one of the largest senior classes the program has had in recent years, with nine players currently in the group.
For younger players interested in joining the sport, Pate pointed to the Marshfield Baseball Club and local travel teams as important development opportunities. Information about tryouts and youth programs is shared through Marshfield Blue Jays Activities on Facebook and the team's social media accounts.
While the season didn't end with a state championship, Pate said winning back-to-back district titles and setting a program record for victories gave players plenty to be proud of.
