Debra Andrews can’t remember exactly when in 2003 she started working at Penny Pinchers, “I’m certain school had began, because I had to be home to meet the bus,” she reflects.
Last week brought about a lot more reflections on the past twenty-two years where Debbie has often been the face of Penny Pincher’s, working her way up from cashier to ultimately manager. In the last year she has pulled away from management and filled in wherever needed, often keeping pace or surpassing her younger co-workers, many a third of her age.
Debbie’s own children, plus a host of nieces and nephews have worked summers or after school, a couple through college. As the staff has changed so has the store during her tenure.
“We were primarily a salvage business dealing with grocery store shelf pulls…it’s a completely different store and Debbie has been a big part of that,” said store owner Champ Herren.
“We know for sure that patrons will miss her smile and kindness.”
What are her plans post Penny Pincher’s? Always active, retirement will be a change for Debbie, who is moving to Springfield to be near her family.
Specifically she says, “I want to spend more time with my family, walk the nature trails and explore the parks around Springfield…spend a lot of time at the library and join a fitness center.”
Marshfield will miss you, Congratulations and Good Luck!
