Little Fighter, Big Milestone: Hudson Gray Celebrates Kindergarten Graduation

Posted

For Hudson Gray and his family, kindergarten graduation is a little more than caps and smiles. It’s one of those moments that probably felt impossible a few years ago.

Hudson’s mom, Adisyn Gray, said the family’s journey changed suddenly in November of 2021. Hudson was just 17 months old when doctors discovered a grapefruit-sized brain tumor after he was rushed to the hospital.

The road after that was long. Really long.

The family spent more than 200 days at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where Hudson went through chemotherapy, surgeries, and treatment after cancer had spread beyond the original tumor site.

Doctors initially gave Hudson about a 20% chance of making it through treatment.

Now, Hudson is getting ready to celebrate something much different.

He graduated kindergarten this past week at St. Jude in Memphis, with support from family and members of his care team. He’ll also move on to first grade this fall.

The celebration continues next month as the family hosts the fourth annual Heroes for Hudson 5K on June 6 at the Webster County Baptist Association. The event began as a way to celebrate Hudson’s birthday while giving back to the hospital that helped carry the family through some of their hardest days.

Sometimes the biggest victories don't happen in hospitals. Sometimes they happen in a graduation cap.
