Large Crowds Celebrate Marshfield's Independence Day Parade

Posted

Marshfield's 147th Independence Day celebration drew large crowds, colorful floats and plenty of patriotic spirit, according to parade chairman Nicholas Inman.

"It was a fantastic day to be in Marshfield," Inman said. "The streets were lined with people waving flags and celebrating."

Inman said he knew the parade would be well attended after seeing chairs lining the sidewalks the night before. By July 3, more than 200 parade entries had already registered, an unusually high number before parade day.

Rachel Straw served as grand marshal, representing Webster County residents who are 100 years of age or older. Honorary Grand Marshal Deck of Hearts helped kick off the festivities by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Longtime KY3 broadcaster Ned Reynolds also returned to walk with the Honor Flight, continuing a parade tradition.

Newly crowned Semiquincentennial Queen Ava Kelly made her first appearance in the parade and will hold the title until America's 300th birthday celebration in 2076.

Inman said several floats stood out, including a Revolutionary War-themed entry by John Gray and a patriotic display by Webco Manor featuring a large eagle and other handmade decorations.

"There were so many well-done floats," Inman said. "I wouldn't have wanted to be one of the judges."

The parade stretched to nearly two hours. Despite the summer heat, Inman said the strong turnout and community spirit made it another memorable Independence Day in Marshfield.
