The anticipation is building for the third annual fundraising event hosted by the Marshfield High School Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program. The Made in Marshfield Celebrity Dinner, which will be held at Marshfield High Schol on Saturday, Feb. 8, promises to offer an exciting evening of entertainment, valuable networking, and a glimpse into the incredible work the JAG students are doing in their community.
While JAG Advisor Shelly Jones provides overall supervision, it’s the students who take the reins on planning and executing the event.
“This year, we have 47 JAG students participating, and each one plays a vital role in our community service projects and career readiness programs,” Jones said. “The funds we raise through this event will directly support these efforts, allowing us to continue offering students valuable experiences and preparing them for life after high school.”
“It’s very student-led,” said Elizabeth Wall, JAG secretary and senior student at Marshfield High School. “We delegate different tasks to different students and groups, and we’re the ones doing most of the work.”
Wall, who is in her second year with the JAG program, expressed excitement for this year’s event, building on her positive experience from last year. “I really enjoyed it last year, and I’m so excited to do it again,” she said. “We’ve all been working really hard to make this year’s event fun for everyone who comes.”
The upcoming event will feature a variety of activities designed to showcase the achievements of JAG students while raising crucial funds for the program. Attendees can expect an elevated pasta dinner, a silent auction, dessert auction, and a live auction with a range of exciting items up for bid.
The live auction will feature unique packages and the evening’s entertainment will be provided by folk singer Melinda Mullins, whose father was a famous writer. Auctioneer David Bucha will also return to guide the live auction.
A key highlight of the event is the opportunity for JAG students to share their personal experiences with the program. “We’ll be talking about what JAG is, what it has meant to us, and what we’ve accomplished through it,” Wall explained.
In addition to student testimonials, the event will serve as a networking opportunity. Each table will be hosted by JAG students, who will engage with attendees in conversations about life skills and employability tips, particularly on the topic of job interviews.
“The kids’ favorite portion that we’re going to do is being able to talk to their tables,” Jones explained. “Each of the tables will be hosted by students who will be asking questions and have the opportunity to hear employability tips or interview tips from local professionals right here in our community.”
“We want to use the event to teach valuable skills, not just raise funds,” said Wall. “It’s a great opportunity for both students and community members to connect and learn.”
Funds raised from the event will directly benefit the JAG program, which helps prepare students for life after high school by offering career readiness training, leadership development, and community service projects.
Those interested in attending or donating items for the auction can reach out to Shelly Jones.
“We’re always looking for donations, and every bit helps,” she said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to support these students and the important work they’re doing.”
The JAG event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 8 with registration available through this link: https://shorturl.at/aPfee.
The JAG program has long been a valuable resource for students at Marshfield High School, and this year’s fundraiser promises to be another exciting chapter in its continued success.
