The Fordland Early Childhood Center marked the start of the school year with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly upgraded preschool playground on Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. The celebration coincided with the first day of school and highlighted the first major addition to the center since it opened in 2016.

The project, funded through the {span}Preschool Start-Up{/span} Grant, began at the end of the previous school year and has transformed the play area into a multi-purpose outdoor learning environment.

The upgrades include a shaded space for lessons, additional play equipment designed for preschoolers, a garden area for hands-on learning, and a bike trike area for exploration.

The Early Childhood Center, which also serves as a FEMA shelter, received strong support from the school board, Superintendent Dr. Vickers, Elementary Principal Mrs. Foraker, and the community to bring the project to completion.

These enhancements will provide lasting benefits for current and future preschool students.

In addition to the playground improvements, the center was recently recognized as the 2024 Early Childhood Program of the Year (Small School Category) for the state of Missouri.
