The 2025 Missouri State High School football season kicked off last Thursday night as the Marshfield Blue Jays traveled to Springfield Parkview. The Vikings marched down the field on the opening drive and reached first-and-goal inside the one-yard line. But when Parkview’s running back mishandled the ball, Marshfield’s Joshua Lambeth pounced on it at the three-yard line to halt the threat.
From there, the Blue Jay offense responded with an impressive 12-play, 97-yard drive capped off by a 13-yard touchdown run from junior Anthony Macrelli. Riley Daily added the extra point to give Marshfield a 7-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Parkview’s Cordel Davis found himself alone in the back of the end zone and caught a 12-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Blue Jays up 7-6 at the break. Both defenses controlled the second half, with neither team able to score again.
The Marshfield defense proved dominant, stopping six Parkview drives that began on the Blue Jays’ side of the field, including two deep in the red zone. One started at the 16-yard line and another at the 12, and both ended in turnover on downs. Marshfield will now prepare to host Reeds Spring this Friday. Reeds is coming off a week one loss to Rogersville, 42-18.
In other sports news, the Lady Jays softball team opened their season with two wins and one loss. On Thursday, Marshfield defeated Halfway at home 14-4. On Saturday, they traveled to McDonald County, where they edged the hosts 8-7 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Neosho. At press time, the Lady Jays were competing in Monett and will head to Cassville on Thursday.
Marshfield boys soccer opened their year at the Marshfield Kickoff Tournament, playing Lebanon to a 1-1 tie, falling to Fair Grove 4-0, and defeating Crocker 2-0.
Meanwhile, the Lady Jays volleyball team, the “Volly Jays,” started strong on the road last Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Capital City in Jefferson City. They returned home Monday to sweep Cabool 3-0, keeping their record unblemished.
