Decorative displays added to Marshfield square

Posted

Visitors to the Webster County Courthouse may notice new decorative artwork now installed on the north end windows of the building’s atrium and elevator entrance, adding a visual welcome to the county square.

The window artwork was provided by the Webster County 2026 Celebrations Committee as part of its efforts to enhance the appearance of the square ahead of several major community and national celebrations planned for 2026.

Chris Davis, a member of the committee, said the display was intended to create a stronger visual presence downtown as preparations continue for upcoming events, including celebrations tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary and Route 66 milestones.

The artwork is a perforated window wrap, designed to appear as a solid image from the outside while still allowing visibility from inside the courthouse. Davis said the north end of the square presented a challenge because there was no street pole available for traditional signage, making the window installation an effective alternative at a key entry point.

The display was funded entirely by the Webster County 2026 Celebrations Committee as a gift to the community. County funds were not used for the installation.

In addition to the courthouse artwork, seasonal decorations have also been added to the gazebo on the square by the Marshfield Art Group. Founded in 1944, the group decorated the gazebo with a Star of Bethlehem motif for the Christmas season.

The gazebo decorations are scheduled to be removed Jan. 2 and will be replaced later with new designs for future occasions. Davis said patriotic-themed decorations are planned for the spring as the community prepares for additional celebrations later in the year.

The courthouse window art and gazebo decorations are part of a broader effort to beautify the square and create a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors as Marshfield prepares to host increased attention surrounding upcoming events.
