City moves to twice-yearly limb pickup schedule

Posted

The City of Marshfield has officially moved to a twice-a-year schedule for curbside limb pickup, a change that follows the cancellation of the previously planned July pickup due to equipment issues.

City staff confirmed that while the most recent limb pickup was successfully completed earlier this spring, the next round—originally expected to happen this summer—was canceled. The city’s wood chipper is currently out of service, prompting the decision to scale back to a more sustainable schedule going forward.

“Moving forward, our goal is to complete one round of pickup before Memorial Day and another before Halloween each year,” said City Administrator Sam Rost. “If there is a major storm event that creates a need, we’ll respond accordingly, but otherwise we’re moving to a twice-a-year model.”

In the meantime, the city has been working with residents on alternative options for limb disposal, including free burn permits and information on how to safely dispose of brush on private property. Officials have reminded residents that limbs left too early or inappropriately placed—such as in ditches or on rights-of-way—can create drainage issues and may sit for extended periods without being collected.

The next scheduled limb pickup will take place in October, with specific dates to be announced closer to time.
