Box to Box Soccer previews: Logan-Rogersville

After falling short at districts last season, the Wildcats Boys Soccer team, led by head coach of 16 years Brett Wubbena, look to improve on last year’s astounding 21-4 record.

“We lost to Osage in districts last year,” said Wubbena. “We lost some important players last year. We are coming back with a strong core of returners along with a very good freshman class.”

Among the returning players are goalkeeper Brady Goodson. Goodson walked away from last season with Class 2 All-State first team, Class 2 All-Region 3 Goalkeeper of the Year, Class 2 All-District 5 Goalkeeper of the Year, and All-Big 8 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.

“Goodson is as good as they come,” exclaims Wubbena. “I thought he was awesome last year, and he’s only gotten better in the offseason.”

Stewart MacDonald, midfielder, also returns after receiving Class 2 All-State first team, Class 2 All-Region 3 first team, All-Big 8 Conference first team, and the Class 2 District 5 Player of the Year.

“MacDonald can play a forward when you need a goal, midfielder when you need to control the game, or center back when defending,” said Wubbena. “He’s a great all-around player that is strong on the ball. He’ll be a player to keep an eye on this year.”

Caleb Vogt and Connor Stewart are two more midfielders to watch out for.

“Don’t tell Vogt he can’t do something,” said Wubbena. “He’ll prove you wrong. Stewart sees the game better than most and has exceptional speed. He is a kid that will make coming to watch a game worth it.”

Joyle Seu returns as a forward for his senior year, promising speed and agility that will find him behind any back line this year.

Clayton McClellan, Chase Hampton, Riley Hensley, Easton Hampton, Noah Jones, Mathias Nothum, and Marcus Sirb also return to the 2023 season as starters looking to leave a mark.

“Our freshman class has been excited to get on the field all summer,” added Wubbena. “They have worked really hard and have already turned the heads of each of our coaches.”

The Wildcats will begin their season at the Lebanon Tournament Aug. 25-26. The first home game will pit them against Hillcrest on Aug. 31.
