The Salvation Army “Battle of the Banks” challenge concluded with a clear winner: Arvest Bank took the top spot with $175.00. Central Bank took second with $59.30, followed by Southern Bank, Seymour Bank, Simmons and Stockmen’s. Arvest will get to display the Red Kettle Statue until next year when we hope to repeat the challenge.
The Webster County Salvation Army Service Unit is gearing up to “ring the bell” for their annual Red Kettle Campaign. The Webster County Unit is a totally volunteer driven event, and the Red Kettle Campaign is the single largest fundraiser we participate in annually. Last year $31,000.00 was raised, of which 85% stayed right here to help our neighbors in need with rent, utility, transportation, clothing and other assistance. The remaining 15% went to help with state and natural disasters.
Our local Salvation Army Unit is looking for people who want to “ring the bell” for an hour or two on a Friday or Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. It’s fun and family oriented: children love to ring the bell, and it is a good way to teach them about helping others in their community.
To volunteer, please call Chris Parker at 417-859-5673 or 417-224-3959, or email at chris52parker@hotmail.com. Together we are “doing the most good” for Webster County.
