Bargain Hunting for a Good Cause in Conway

Posted

Bargain hunters will have another stop to add to their list during Conway's community-wide garage sale weekend, and this one comes with a bigger purpose.

Conway Community Days is hosting its first-ever fundraising garage sale to help pay for future projects and improvements around the community.

Connie Frost, president of Conway Community Days, said the idea came after the organization faced an unexpected expense.

"We had to put a new roof on the community building," Frost said. "That took a chunk out of our normal funds."

Now, organizers are hoping the community will help restock those funds while also finding a few treasures along the way.

The group is currently accepting donations of items to sell. Frost said just about anything is welcome, with one exception.

"No clothes," she said with a laugh.

Furniture, household items, kitchen supplies, décor, toys, tools, and other gently used items are all being accepted. Donations have already started arriving. One person donated a basketball goal, while others have brought furniture and totes filled with kitchen items.

If someone has items they'd like to contribute but can't deliver them, Frost said arrangements can be made.

"They can call me, and I'll arrange for pickup or meet them at the building," she said.

The sale marks a first for Conway Community Days, even though the town's larger community-wide garage sale has become a familiar tradition.

"This is our first one," Frost said. "Everybody tries to have their garage sales during that time, so we thought it would be a good opportunity."

Funds raised through the event will go toward future Community Days projects and help ensure the organization can continue supporting local events and improvements.

The garage sale will be held in the driveway of the carousel building at 205 South Myrtle in Conway.

Those interested in donating items, volunteering, or learning more about Community Days can find the group on Facebook by searching Conway Community Days. Frost said she's happy to answer questions and help people get involved.

"If I don't have the answer," she said, "I'll find it."
