The City of Marshfield will host the fifth annual “Marshfield Remembers” memorial on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Patriot Park (1490 N. Elm St.) A powerful display of 2,977 American flags will line the park from Tuesday, Sept. 9, through Thursday, Sept. 11, symbolizing each life lost during the attacks. The display, open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., also features student projects from Marshfield R-I School District, a tradition that has become a poignant way for the youngest generation to reflect on a moment in history that shaped the nation.
The evening will feature a tribute with two towers of light rising into the night sky at 8 p.m. First responders will stand in solemn recognition of their service and sacrifice. As the beams of light climb, the Marshfield High School Concert Choir will perform, creating a moving atmosphere of remembrance.
Marshfield native Bryant Robinson will perform Taps, with the solemn notes closing the evening around 9:15 p.m.
Throughout the day, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Digital Learning Experience will stream for visitors, offering firsthand accounts and educational insights about the tragedy and the resilience that followed.
“This memorial and tribute is designed to let those who experienced 9/11 come together and reflect on the events of that day, honor the lives lost and the families left behind, and educate future generations so that we truly ‘Never Forget,’” Marshfield Mayor Natalie McNish said.
“We hope people from all across southwest Missouri will join Marshfield to remember not only the tragedy, but also the coming together of Americans as neighbors in the days and months following the horrific events of that day.”
The annual memorial has become a tradition for Marshfield, drawing residents and visitors alike to Patriot Park. With its blend of solemn remembrance, community involvement, and education, the event continues to ensure that the words “Never Forget” remain more than just a phrase—they remain a living promise.
