Strafford will honor veterans, freedom at annual parade

Posted

Independence Day celebrations kick off in Strafford Tuesday, July 4 with a large parade set to take place.

The parade will feature a wide variety of floats, horses, bicyclists, cars, trucks, tractors and on foot. Line-up starts at 9:15 a.m. The parade will take off at 10 a.m.

The city and area veterans will both have large floats escorted by Strafford police and flanked by Strafford Fire Department as part of the celebration honoring those who have served our country.

No registration for parade participation is necessary, and the City is expecting a large number of parade participants to show up. For line up, floats will need to head to the staging area at the school.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three most festively-decorated floats. Third place will receive $25, second will take home $50, and first prize will win $100.

The Strafford High School Color Guard will lead the Indian’s band as they lead the parade east from the school on Pine Street before heading north on Jefferson to McCabe where they will loop back to the school.

Parade goers will want to line these streets as participants in the parade throw candy and other festive treats. For more information, visit straffordmo.net.
