Shook Elementary Safety Night

Posted

As our school year starts winding down, it is time to think about our students and their summer plans. Summers are a time of fun and enjoyment for kids, full of outdoor activities, bike rides, swimming, and more. For students in the age group we serve, however, it can also mean lots of unsupervised time. Many parents work Monday through Friday jobs, and kids ages 9-11 are often considered old enough to stay home alone. With this in mind, we will be having a Shook Safety Night on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This event is designed to provide parents with the knowledge necessary to keep their children safe, in hopes we will see all of our kiddos again in August, happy and healthy.

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm, with parents/caregivers checking in at the front entrance. Students who accompany their parents will be directed to the cafeteria to be entertained with a movie, games, and snacks. This will allow parents to relax and enjoy up to four mini-presentations throughout the evening.

There will be SIX options for parents to select from:

Fire Safety with Michael Graves from the Marshfield Fire Department

Digital Safety for Tweens by Marshfield School's IT Department Dee O'Dell and Jonah Hill

Severe Weather Safety by Mark Burchfield with the National Weather Service

Injury Prevention and Sports Safety by the Webster County Health Unit

Home Gun Safety & Procedures by Kenny Reese

Medicine Safety & Poison Prevention by Marshfield School's Director of Health Services Christina Roberts

Each topic will be presented four times: 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, and 7:45. Parents will select the four topics they are most interested in and visit the corresponding sessions. Parents will be given a punch card to signify which sessions they attended and will be asked to return the card to the welcome table at the end of the evening to be entered into a drawing to receive a Marshfield City Pool Season Pass.

Shook Elementary is located at 180 State Hwy DD, Marshfield.
