Scary tales around the square

Posted

Is there a big cave under Marshfield? What did the undertaker do with the body that was never claimed? What happened at Marshfield’s only documented lynching?

The answers to these questions can easily be found. Curious minds can show up on Oct. 30 at the Webster County History Museum at 219 S. Clay St. for an hour-long Haunted History walk led by Champ Herron.

“We are doing a haunted history walk around the square. You can learn about things that happened in the past, places you may see or even walk past or walk over every day. What happened there 100 years ago? who were? What are some of the stories around Marshfield’s Square? Where was the Civil War fort? What about Webster County’s only lynching that occurred on the square?,” Herron teases.

A seasoned storyteller, narrating tales as early as his 20s, Herron will guide Marshfieldian and history lovers through the square; recalling history with spooky elements and humor sprinkled in.

“Come out for an evening to learn about Webster County’s history… Check out the museum, the museum and of course, the research center will be open. There are refreshments will be available. We will have a lot of fun.”

Food will be provided: freaky Frito pies. Yummy mummy candy, and witches apple cider brew.
