Salute to Military

Posted

The month of May is filled with a vast variety of holidays and special occasions. In 1999 May was designated as National Military Appreciation Month by the late Senator John McCain. According to theleague.org, May was chosen because it already encompasses many of the individual days that are recognized by the U.S. Military’s achievements. Some of these days are: Military Spouse Appreciation Day (Friday before Mother’s Day), VE Day (May 8th), Armed Forces Day (3rd Saturday of May) and Memorial Day (last Monday in May).

There are many ways the community can appreciate and honor Military Service men and women that include; saying to thank a military person or veteran, host an event in the community to honor service men and women, offer a discount if you own a business for service members and veterans, volunteer at a local VFW or other Veterans service organization, or the most simple of all-educate your children on the history of the US Military and it’s value.

The Marshfield Mail would like to thank each of the service men, woman and retired veterans who have served our country.
