On the chilly morning of Saturday, Dec. 3, while most residents of Marshfield were in bed or pouring their first cup of coffee, others decided to start their day off on the right or maybe left foot. The first annual Ugly Sweater 5K Run was held at the First Baptist Church in Marshfield. The Missouri State University Baptist Student Union, a non-profit organization, hosted the run. All proceeds from the event went to helping BSU, which further helps students in their religious studies while they attend college. The event was successful, with 33 participants, several spectators, and volunteers.
“Super grateful for those who turned out! For our first ever 5K, I think it was good overall. We have lots of room for improvement.” Chris Wilson, Director of BSU, expressed, “ Our second annual BSU Ugly Sweater Fun run 5K will be held Dec 02 next year. We will be looking for sponsors for the event. Contact chris@springfieldbsu.org if you are interested.”
The top three runners for the ugly sweater run were the following:
1st Sean Walker with a time of 17:49:76
2nd Zach Mitchell with a time of 18:56:86
3rd Reed Huffman with a time of 23:13:02
