Elkland School Reunion

Posted

In 1977, the small school of Elkland closed its doors for the final time. At the time, the building was over 40 years old and the school faced financial problems. The 80 elementary students who currently attended were consolidated into Marshfield schools. Prior to just serving elementary age students, the building previously taught up to high school.

In fact, a number of graduates still join once a year to celebrate their history, recall memories and enjoy fellowship. Graduates from all across the country were present at the Elkland class reunion on May 28 at the Elkland Christian Church. The oldest graduate present was Slyvia Snodgrass, age of 97, and graduated from the Elkland school in 1948.  The last graduating class of Elkland schools was the class of 1959.

Those in attendance included: Reta Eddington, Nancy Graves, Bob Austin, Barbara Austin, John Miller, Don Morgan, Letta Morgan, Joe Morgan, Sylvia Morgan, Martin Miller, Chuck Nimmor, Lenora Wallace, Sarah Womack, Darlene Dill, Gail Dill, Bill Harwood, Patsy Harwood, George Crowder, Iva Cline, Joan Crowder, Billie Cunningham, Evelyn Cunningham, Roger Herman, Blossom Herman, Shirley Benton, Carol Lairmore, Donnie Denton, Shirley Richerson, Valerie Gaeke, Don Gaeke and Rebecca Eagleburg.
