Eagle Scout breaks ground

Posted

On Oct. 12, the Marshfield Mail reported that Boy Scout Lilly Stevens would partner with the Village of Diggins on her Eagle Scout project. This project features a memorial dedicated to all military members. On Oct. 20, the official groundbreaking ceremony was held, which featured speeches from Diggins City Council members thanking Stevens and honoring those who serve.

Stevens’ Eagle project will add to the current flag pole seen near the Diggins City Hall. Stevens, along with a few others, broke ground, thus officially beginning the eagle scout project. However, the ceremony wasn’t finished.

After the shovels were put down, the Village of Diggins had one last announcement. Starting this year, Oct. 20 will officially be officially known as "Lilly Stevens Day".

“I’m excited,” tells a very surprised Stevens, “I was not expecting this at all.”

Stevens has most of the materials needed to start her project, which she hopes to have finished before Veterans Day. To keep track of her progress, check out the Village of Diggins on Facebook or keep reading the Mail.

Thank you again to the Village of Diggins for helping out Lilly Stevens on her eagle project and again to Lilly for doing a genuinely noble project.
