All the leaves are turning brown, red, orange, and yellow as autumn has arrived in Webster County, and the need to clean up those same leaves also arrives as now they are all over the yard. While that seems straightforward, the issue emerges when figuring out what to do with all the grass and leaves. But, for Marshfield residents, there is a solution.
The Marshfield Leaf Drop Site is open for the rest of the year at 3800 N. Marshall Road, Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents will want to take advantage sooner rather than later as the site will be closed from Jan to Mar of next year and will not open until spring.
"City staff will be present on-site during hours of operation to monitor drop-off materials and to verify residency," explained Sam Rost, Marshfield City Administrator.
When residents arrive at the site, they must show proof of residence. The proof can be in the form of an ID or even a water bill.
"No limbs, sticks, stumps, or vines will be accepted," reminded Rost.
The city can pick up the limbs as the last round of the Citywide limb pickup is currently going on.
The city administration asks citizens to have the limbs stacked with the cut end towards the street by hand, not with equipment.
Other reminders include keeping the limbs off the road to avoid blocking or inconveniencing traffic, and if limb piles are placed by equipment or too early, allowing grass to grow on the piles or placed on private property will not be picked up. At that point, it will be the property owner's responsibility to dispose of it. Following these guidelines it will help crews work quickly and efficiently.
"This service is for normal maintenance; if a tree trimmer is hired to come in and remove a tree, they are required to take care of the brush. Our service is not to replace or compete with private services for hire," Rost added.
The pickup crews will be out gathering this week, and the city is hopeful to have all the limbs picked up before Thanksgiving.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the City Administration at 417-859-2352 during their operating hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
