A MASSive community effort

Posted

Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to help out in the community. Regardless of who you are, everyone can help in one way or another. Over a few weeks in June into July, the Marshfield Action Sports Syndicate (MASS) held a volunteering event to repaint teeter-totters at Hartley Park, located at 325 N Clay St, Marshfield.

"Most people don't think of teeter-totters as action sports, but I would say those people aren't thinking of teeter totters correctly," said Kris Hurt, secretary for MASS. "We repainted the teeter-totters at Hartley Park to give back to the community for their overwhelming support for a safe place for local youth to ride."

The event involved not only members of MASS but also volunteers from the community and businesses who donated supplies. Those include CHC Do It Best Marshfield, Hero Ride Shop, Sound Envision, and Summit Utilities.

"CHC Do It Best of Marshfield proudly donated the bulk of the paint for this project," said Hurt. "Kim Braun, Manager of CHC Marshfield, made this happen."

"Volunteering was a good opportunity to practice our organization skills and we had a ton of fun while the paint was drying. Thank you to everyone that participated, especially Kim Braun, Manager at CHC Marshfield. She Rules!" expressed Hurt.

The good times keep rolling for the organization. On July 28, MASS was officially registered as a non-profit organization in Missouri. Meaning they can accept donations and start organizing fundraisers. The next step for the organization is to get an umbrella agreement of 501c3, in other words, to apply for grants with their overall goal of creating a skate park in Marshfield.

MASS is still working out donation details, but if you have any questions visit the Marshfield Action Sports Syndicate Facebook page or email them at marshfieldactionsportsyndicate@gmail.com.
