Zach Mitchell, senior, has broken the record for the fastest 5k time in Marshfield history by six seconds at the MSSU Southern Stampede on Saturday, Sept. 16.
In just his third meet of the season, Mitchell has become the fastest Bluejay in Marshfield HS XC history.
The Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course at MSSU in Joplin is arguably the hardest course on Marshfield’s schedule, but that didn't stop Mitchell from running his way into the history books.
“It feels like it’s not real,” said Mitchell. “I am very blessed to have this talent, and I will continue to use my talent to glorify God.”
The previous school record was set 17 years ago by Drew Thomas.
“Based on the numbers he’s put up and the ways he’s trending, I imagine he will continue breaking this record week by week,” said head coach Gage Miers.
