Jennifer A. Montgomery is facing charge of possessing a controlled substance, a class D felony. Along with making a false declaration, a class B misdemeanor, after Highway Patrol made a traffic stop.

On the morning of Oct. 8, Highway Patrol Trooper Zack Dudley was observing traffic on I-44 when he noticed a vehicle with expired tags cut in front of another car. After stopping the vehicle, Dudley asked for the driver’s license and proof of insurance. The driver claimed to be from Hawaii and was 21 years of age. However, trooper Dudley noticed the driver appeared older than the driver claimed. He then did a computer search on the vehicle, which confirmed his suspicion. The driver was Montgomery, who had a warrant out from Christian County for failing to appear in court after being charged with drug possession. The trooper then searched Montgomery’s vehicle, where he found several syringes containing a controlled substance and one that was empty. Montgomery was arrested shortly after.

The punishment for these charges is as follows. Class D felony carries one to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, one year in county jail, a fine up to $10,000, or a mix of jail time and fine. At the same time, a Class B misdemeanor carries six months of jail time in county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or a combination of the two. Montgomery had a Bond reduction hearing with Judge Chuck Replogle on Oct 18.
