The Logan-Rogersville Wildcats delivered an impressive performance throughout the spring
2025 baseball season, culminating in a hard-fought appearance in the Missouri Class 4 state
championship game last week. Their pursuit of the title came up just short on Thursday, June 5,
as they fell 9-7 to the Chillicothe Hornets at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.
Chillicothe jumped out to a commanding start, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. The
Hornets’ offense exploded in the second inning with four runs, highlighted by a walk-in run and
two key RBI singles. Facing an early deficit, the Wildcats turned to their bullpen in an effort to
slow down the Hornets’ momentum.
Refusing to back down, Logan-Rogersville ignited a comeback in the fourth inning. The Wildcats
plated four runs, including two runs earned via bases-loaded walks. Teagon Trent contributed an
RBI single, and Jack Sutherland crossed home on a fielder’s choice, narrowing the gap to 9-4.
The Wildcats continued chipping away in the sixth inning as Sutherland scored once again on a
fielder’s choice, and Easton Hampton was walked with the bases loaded, bringing Logan-
Rogersville within two runs of tying the game.
In a dramatic seventh inning, with two outs and the tying run at the plate, the Wildcats had a
chance to complete their rally. Cash Clark reached base on a catcher’s interference call, offering
a spark of hope. However, Chillicothe’s pitcher managed a clean play on a ground ball from
Trent and fired to first base to end the game, securing the Hornets’ championship win.
Logan-Rogersville’s path to the final showcased their grit and skill, including a commanding 6-1
victory over Seneca on May 27, a narrow 3-2 win against Blair Oaks on May 29, and a 11-2
semifinal triumph over Sullivan on June 4.
Though the Wildcats fell just short of the ultimate prize, their season will be remembered for a
determined postseason run that highlighted their talent, teamwork, and unwavering spirit.
