Webster County Health Unit Participates in Multi-Agency Mass Vaccination Exercise

Posted

The Webster County Health Unit recently participated in a full-scale, multi-agency vaccination exercise designed to test regional readiness in the event of a public health emergency.

The exercise, held Wednesday, October 1st, at the Lawrence County Health Department in Mt. Vernon, brought together 150 participants representing 19 different agencies across the region. The scenario simulated a multi-county response to a measles outbreak, with agencies working together to meet the surge in demand for measles vaccinations.

“This type of exercise is critical to ensure our staff, local partners, and regional agencies are prepared to respond quickly and effectively to protect the public’s health,” said Guy Gerard, Preparedness Coordinator for the Webster County Health Unit. “Collaboration and coordination across county and agency lines are essential when dealing with infectious disease outbreaks.”

During the simulation, health departments and partner agencies practiced coordinating vaccine distribution, registration, medical screening, and administration of vaccines under emergency conditions. These exercises help identify strengths and areas for improvement in emergency preparedness plans.

The Webster County Health Unit remains committed to protecting the health and safety of the community by preparing for and responding to potential public health emergencies.
