Video leads to arrest warrant

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Sarah Brake (Rousseau) on charges of 2nd degree property damage and stealing.

According to the probable cause statement, Officer Garrett Fannen responded to a call at 900 George Street on May 25, 2022 for a report of property damage and stealing. Upon arrival to the location, Officer Fannen found the passenger window of the caller's car had been broken and a purse had been stolen. The purse contained over $150 in cash, credit cards, and a checkbook.

An initial fingerprinting attempt revealed no prints, however Officer Fannen was later contacted by the ACGI manager that there was video footage of the incident.

The video showed a woman in an SUV pull into the parking lot, park, approach the car and break out the window. After watching the video Officer Fannen recognized the vehicle and the female; the female and SUV resembled the description of a previous report of stealing that occurred on May 2, 2022.

On May 26, 2022 Officer Marlin contacted Officer Fannen that he had stopped a vehicle for a traffic stop that matched the description of the stealing suspect and their car.

Upon arrival at the scene Officer Fannen spoke with Brake who initially denied stealing the purse from the call he responded to on May 25. However, after Officer Fannen revealed that there was video footage of a suspect matching her description and vehicle, Brake admitted to stealing the purse claiming she was “hard up for money” but denied taking anything except the cash.

Brake agreed to come to the police department after finishing work however never arrived. After multiple missed calls, promises to arrive for a meeting, and more missed calls, Officer Fannen was notified that Brake was at the Probation and Parole Office in Marshfield. When asked why Brake didn’t show up for her meetings with Officer Fannen she said she was “scared”.

Following this encounter, Officer Fannen requested an arrest warrant be issued for Brake stating she is a flight risk. The warrant was issued on June 3, 2022.
