Top Five Football Movies

Posted

The fall season is upon us, the leaves, chilly nights, pumpkin spice, and the classic pig skin. What better way to appreciate the autumn season than Football? If your love for the game exceeds the regular season schedule, I have the solution for you. Always ready to play off-season are movies. So in no particular order, here are my top five football movies.

Rudy- A movie based on the real life of Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, whose goal was to play for the Notre Dame football team. It is a fun, inspirational movie that focuses on the player dedicating his life to wear that famous blue and gold uniform. It also has one of my favorite movie lines ever. "In thirty-five years of religious study, I've come up with only two hard, incontrovertible facts: there is a God, and, I'm not Him." Rudy can be rented on Apple TV, Google, and Youtube.

Remember The Titans- This movie is loosely based on the real-life story of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. I enjoy the film for the football action and the soundtrack featuring Ain't No Mountain High Enough. If you have not seen it in a while, feel free to check it out on Disney+ or rent it from Amazon Prime or Youtube.

Friday Night Lights- A football movie that shows the highs and lows of high school football in a small Texas town. I like the approach and how it does not shy away from the fact some parents are way too harsh on their children and set expectations that are almost impossible to reach. If you are looking for a somber take you can see Friday Night Lights on Peacock or for rent on Amazon Prime, Youtube, and Apple TV.

The Replacements- When a professional team goes on strike but the season must continue, who is called in but the replacements? This drama has some comedic moments and a solid cast. I love how the movie ends in a way you don’t expect. You can watch The Replacements on HBO Max or for rent on Amazon Prime, Youtube, and Apple TV.

The Longest Yard- Adam Sandler plays a famous quarterback who falls from grace and ends up in jail. This film is more comedy with some sprinkles of drama, but it still has a great cast and football action. The film is not for kids but is a hit for adults. If you want to watch it again, catch it on Paramount + or for rent on Amazon Prime, Youtube, and Apple TV.

I hope you enjoy my list and thank you for reading. I hope everyone has a good rest of your shift.
