Snowflakes grace Marshfield: new lights installed

Posted

Snowflakes in Marshfield? As commuters head to their favorite local businesses nestled around Marshfield's square and old Route 66, they may notice the brilliant twinkling snowflake lights hung on each light pole.

These dazzling snowflakes are a result of a collaboration between Webster Electric, the City of Marshfield, and the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce. The previous lights were in disrepair and were greatly missed in last year's Christmas festivities. In August, the Chamber applied for one of Webster Electric's Round-up grants and received $10,000 to go towards the purchase of 40 new lights. The Chamber additionally offered $5,000, which the City of Marshfield then matched resulting in $20,000 worth of new lights. Webster Electric generously offered the man power for installation which began on Nov. 10.

"When I started at the city over 20 years ago, the Christmas Lights seemed ancient. We partnered with Webco Custom Industries multiple times to refurbish the candles and Christmas trees that we had for so many years. When the opportunity came to partner with the Chamber of Commerce for new lights, I was very excited. I along with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen jumped on the opportunity and the partnership has been fantastic," reflected Sam Rost, City of Marshfield City Administrator.

"While we are still working on installation, the lights look great, and there are already conversations to see how and when we can expand them along our downtown corridor and possibly beyond in due time. I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce for their partnership and all the effort they put in to make it a success. I also want to thank Webster Electric, not only for the grant that made this project come to fruition, but also to the Webster Electric Staff for helping to install them as soon as they came in. Lastly, a thank you to the Board of Aldermen for taking immediate action when it was presented so that the lights had time to get here and installed before the Holidays."

With the help of all three entities, the trio are making holidays that much brighter this year.

"I'm super excited. Seeing it come to fruition is awesome," shared Marshfield Chamber of Commerce President Jessica Rezak. "Now we can build into it in the years to come."

This year the Marshfield Christmas Parade of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3. For more information you can visit the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce website or call the office at (417) 859-3925.
