Season ends for Niangua

Posted

Districts and State championships are in full swing. On Friday, Feb. 24, the Niangua Boys Basketball Team competed in the final round of districts against Chadwick. The Cardinals would get off to a slow start in the first quarter and gain momentum. That momentum, though, was not enough, and they would lose to Chadwick with the final score of 40-43.

"Kids played extremely hard all night. Had to overcome an early deficit." Tells Kalem Copling, head coach for the boys' basketball team. "They just needed the ball to bounce differently a couple of times. Extremely proud of this group to make it this far. It was only the 5th district title game in Niangua Boys Basketball history. Proud of the effort and the work these boys have put in to make it this far."

The stats for the game are as follows:

#11 Senior Brayden Johnston scored 4 points, two free throws, and one 2-pointer.

#13 Junior Evan Kochs scored 10 points, two 2-pointers, and two 3-pointers.

#20 Junior Ethan Scheetz scored 9 points, two free throws, two 2-pointers, and one 3-pointer.

#22 Junior Ross Stuber scored 3 points, one 3-pointer.

#41 Junior Clayton Henderson scored 10 points, one free throw, three 2-pointers, and one 3-pointer.

#45 Junior Hunter Cantrell scored 4 points, two 2-pointers.

The Niangua Cardinals officially ended their season 19-9. Great job, Cardinals!
