Roundup helps with Tourism Center

Posted

For anyone local to Marshfield, you’ve probably been to, or at least heard of, Hidden Waters Nature Park also frequently referred to as Hidden Waters.

It’s one of the only parks in Marshfield that doesn’t actually have playground equipment, but offers beautiful walking trails accompanied by beautiful greenery, and historical cabin.

Recently, Hidden Waters applied for a grant from the Webster Electric Round up to help cover a portion of the cost for the remodel of the park’s Visitors Center that is currently underway.

“Webster Electric has been a wonderful supporter of the park since the beginning. One of the first grants Webster Electric provided was to help fund the relocation and reconstruction of the Callaway Cabin to the park,” shared Debra Rainey, Vice President of Hidden Waters Nature Park. “The grant funded this time will be used for plumbing and electrical fixtures in the new Welcome Center that is currently under remodel.”

The Hidden Waters park board has been planning this visitor center project for a long time and the entire group is excited to see it finally coming to fruition. The hope for the Visitors Center? To be a welcoming place for visitors.

“The Dan and ZoAnn Beckner Welcome Center will be a point of interest where visitors traveling through the area on old Route 66 can stop and acquire information about the history of the park and the

Marshfield area,” explained Rainey.

“The Park has recently been designated an official segment of the Trail of Tears,” Rainey added.  “The building will house a conference room for meetings and eventually the plan is to host educational forums

for the community on a number of topics.”

In addition to serving as a welcome center to tourist, the center will also house the Chamber of Commerce. “The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce has agreed to rent space in the building which will allow it to be open during the week and any revenue will put funding back

into the park,” explained Rainy of the plans for the center. The hope is to complete the project by the end of 2022.

The group is very thankful for the opportunity to complete this project and others due to the help of the Webster Electric Round Up grants.

“The grant program through our Webster Electric Cooperative is a wonderful thing for our community. We would encourage everyone to sign up for Operation RoundUp,” petitioned Rainey.
