Red Notice: Masterpiece or Bust?

Posted

An FBI profiler is hunting international art thieves while also trying to clear their names from Interpol. Can they do it, or will it come up a bust? Red Notice is a film released in 2021 and stars Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds. Is Red Notice worth your time with three great acts and a premise like this? Let us analyze this film and see what we find.

Let’s address the positives. The film is a good mix of history, art, action, and comedy. All thanks to the cast and crew that worked to make this happen. Johnson and Reynolds do a great job playing off each other with their dynamics. If you are a fan of Reynolds’ usual improved banter, you are in for a treat. Johnson does a great job being the straight man in the comedy duo, and generally fun to see him play a person trying to be the good guy in a world of the bad guys. Gadot does excellent work too. Playing intelligent, witty, and always one step ahead of everyone. It is nice to see what else she is capable of outside of being Wonder Woman.

The only real complaint was the ending of the film. It felt a bit rushed but not so rushed that it was sloppy work. Just maybe another five minutes would have made it solid. The plot is straightforward, with thievery and comedy sprinkled in. The film does not overstay its welcome and knows it is a short action comedy film and an absolute treat.

Red Notice can be streamed on Netflix and is a fun and enjoyable film to watch if you are a fan of comedies or like the thief angle. It is neither a bust nor a masterpiece, just good. That is why I give Red Notice three cocoanuts out of five.
