Officer injured, suspect shot after domestic call in Seymour

A domestic call resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Seymour over the weekend, leaving the suspect in the hospital and a Seymour police officer with minor injuries.

The incident happened Saturday, Feb. 15 on South Peightel Street when officers responded to a call for a domestic distrubance involving two individuals. Upon arrival, officers were attempting to de-escalate the situation when the suspect became physically aggressibe and attacked one of the responding officers.

“In response to the immediate threat, the officer discharged their service weapon striking the subject,” said Chief Steven Pogue in a statement. “The subject was transported to a Springfield area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer recieived minor injuries.”

At the request of Seymour Police Chief Steven Pogue, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting an investigation.

“As per department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement continued. “The name of the officer involved is not being released at this time.”

The identities of those involved in the domestic dispute have not been released at this time. The Mail will have more on this story as it develops.
