Strafford falls to Republic

Posted

Thursday night, Jan. 26, Strafford residents came to watch as their Lady Indians took on the Republic Tigers. Both teams had, up to this point, an impressive season as both had 15 wins going in, but only one was leaving the gym with that sweet 16th win. Both teams would leave the audience on the edge of their seats as both teams played very intensely, but in the end, Strafford would fall to Republic 47-51.

“This was definitely a game we always look forward to,” says Head basketball coach of the Strafford Lady Indians Dustin Larsen. “It always helps prepare us for postseason play and getting into districts. I thought our kids came out and really competed and guarded well. One of our starting guards is out due to an injury, so this game was a good test for the other kids to step in and step up. We are so proud of the way our kids pulled together. Even though we didn’t win on the scoreboard, we definitely won as a team.”

Stats for the game are as follows:

#3 Freshman Elsie Larsen scored 17 points, three free throws, four 2-pointers, and two 3-pointers.

#5 Sophomore Brooklyn Adney scored 4 points, two 2-pointers.

#22 Senior Sophia Ferking scored 6 points, three 2-pointers.

#23 Senior Laney Humble scored 16 points, two free throws, one 2-pointer, and four 3-pointers.

#25 Freshman Zoe Allison scored 2 points, one 2-pointer.

#30 Sophomore Ellie Heil scored 2 points, one 2-pointer.

The Lady Indians (15-6) will take on Forsyth (11-5) on Thursday, Feb. 2.
