New Sign, who this?

Friday Night Lights just got brighter

Posted

Those who attended last Friday's football game may have noticed something different and… bright? I mean, of course, the brand new Marshfield Bluejay digital video scoreboard. The new board showed off more than just the scores. On Sept.16 it made its stunning LED debut, which included a “hype” video of the Bluejay football team and commercials provided by the sponsors who helped make the purchase. Ronda Hubbard, Athletic Director for Marshfield Schools, knew the sign was long overdue.

Hubbard recalls, "When I got here five years ago, the warranty pieces for the old scoreboard were out of date. We were at the point where the scoreboard was so old that if something went wrong, the parts were not made anymore. So we knew it was time; fortunately, we had some community businesses step up and make it happen for us."

Those local businesses involved with the purchases of the new sign were Whitetail Properties, Central Bank, Perkins Diesel, and Post Game Pizza. Each company had its own thoughts regarding the scoreboard.

Starting with Brian Utecht, Salesperson, and Land specialist of Whitetail Properties, who stated, "... That sign resembles to me new beginnings for success. It is neat that the kids can be recognized with their names and faces up there. … I think it shows that we really care about our community and our kids."

Jamie Clark, Marshfield Community President for Central Bank, feels the same way about Marsfield and adds, "We are excited to continue to support the school and scoreboard. We are excited to be able to help bring those to the schools and communities throughout the Ozarks. We have been a major supporter of the schools and athletics and are just thankful we can do it".

That sense of community and family hits close to home for Perkins Diesel. Jennifer Perkins, co-owner of Perkins Diesel, explains, “My husband and I, along with my brother-in-law all have kids in the school district. So we are excited to be able to contribute to that.”

Last but certainly not least, contributing to the new scoreboard was Post Game Pizza. Owner Jacob Stephens shared his thoughts by saying, “We love giving back to the schools and community. We are happy and honored to be a part of helping out.”

Right now, the scoreboard will provide essential content and commercials from the sponsors. Still, thanks to the media class, Hubbard is looking forward to its potential.

“We will be able to create our content to put up which will involve our media class led by Coach Jessica Gorham,” Hubbard explains. “The sky is the limit to what we are going to be able to do. … I mean other fun things we could potentially do down the road is play a movie, or fundraising events.”

The new scoreboard is not only a sign to display stats. It is also a symbol of community pride. And with a symbol like that, the future looks bright for Marshfield schools.
