Net gains volleyball preview: Marshfield

Posted

The Marshfield Lady Jays are returning almost every single starter from last year as they look toward the 2023 volleyball season.

Led by Mollie Thomas, Gracie Kimrey and a large group of seniors, it’s safe to say that this year will be an exciting one on the court for fans of the Lady ‘Jays.

Marshfield finished the 2022 season strong with a record of 19-11-3.

Much of the success this season will be on the backs of a large senior class with plenty of varsity experience.

Thomas and Kimrey are four-year starters looking to leave their mark on Bluejay volleyball before continuing their careers in college. Thomas has verbally committed to Florida Gulf Coast University for sand volleyball after receiving two All-State awards as a Bluejay. Kimrey is a two-time All-Conference and All-District middle.

Thomas has racked up over 1,350 assists, 600 kills, and 600 digs in her three years as a Lady ‘Jay. Kimrey has gotten over 600 kills in her career as a middle, along with 157 blocks.

Fellow seniors Abby McBride, Lauren Luebbert, Sophia Eddings, and Addison Houston will also return as starters for the 2023 season.

“All five of our seniors have been great for our program,” head coach Jarod Olson said. “They’re also important athletes in other programs. Eddings came to us last year as a transfer student, and she’s been great for our gym as well.”

Ruby Joiner, junior, returns to the varsity squad as a libero for her third consecutive year. Joiner is a two-time All-Conference and All-District player as well.

Tilly Greenfield and Quinn Aldridge return to Lady ‘Jays volleyball as sophomores.

“They will both play bigger roles for us this year,” added Olson. “We also expect Gracelyn Bull, Kinleigh Mings, Afton Houston, and Allison Mashburn to contribute to the varsity side. We are excited about this group and we expect to compete at a high level.

The Marshfield Lady Bluejays will kick off their season at home against the Camdenton Lady Lakers on Aug. 25.
