Bel Canto Choir selected to perform at Missouri Music Educators Conference

Posted

The Marshfield High School Bel Canto Choir will be performing at the 87th Annual Missouri Music Educators Association Conference and In-Service Workshop at Margaritaville, Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, MO this Thursday, Jan. 30.

"Marshfield being selected as one of the top ensembles is such an honor,” said Current director Juliana Pyle. “Truly, they earned the title. They earned the right to perform there. It’s surreal."

Being selected to perform at this conference is the equivalent to winning a state title for sports and is the highest honor a choir can receive at the state level in Missouri. The last time Marshfield High School graced the state stage was in 1994 under the direction of Carol Wilson.

Pyle is thrilled to end this 31 year drought with such an incredible set of 50+ singers. The Bel Canto choir began their journey in August when they started rehearsing for their special performance.

The Marshfield High School Bel Canto Choir is a non-auditioned treble ensemble ranging from grades 9-12. This choir meets daily for approximately 56 minutes, split between two class periods.

Since its inception in 2021, the ensemble has earned top ratings at contests. This ensemble received first place at Silver Dollar City's Music in the Parks contest in 2024 and 2023. They also scored straight exemplary ratings at Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) contests beginning in 2022.

"It just gets stronger and stronger when it comes to our leadership of our students. It’s been very impactful to watch them thrive and shine," she addedd. "The seniors now were freshmen when it started. So it’s truly a full circle moment of you started this ensemble, you won it in your junior year, and now you just get this final lap of glory your senior year."

Under Juliana’s direction, the Marshfield vocal program has grown from 55 students between two choirs in 2019 to 105 students between four choirs in 2025. Bel Canto will perform at 11:30 am in Paradise C for a thirty minute performance featuring their Choir program theme Beacon, centered on the literal and figurative storms of life.

Tickets are required for the performance. If interested in attending, please email Juliana.Pyle@mjays.us.
