Mail staff adds Marshfield grad

Posted

The Marshfield Mail would like to announce the addition of our newest editorial staff member, Abigail Swanigan.

“There’s nothing like being in a small, supportive community like Webster County,” said Swanigan on returning to Marshfield. “I’m excited to be a part of this team and to further my career in journalism, while also utilizing my marketing skills.”

Upon graduating from MHS at the peak of the pandemic in 2020, Swanigan began studying Applied Business and Marketing and is currently a sophomore enrolled at Ozark Technical Community College.

Swanigan is previously from Smithville, Mo, where her passion for journalism was born. Since her freshman year of high school, she honed in on strengthening her writing skills and was a reporter for her high school newspaper as well as being on the yearbook staff. By her senior year, she had accepted a position at the Marshfield Mail as an intern.

“Abby’s dedication to our community was apparent during her first go-around at the newspaper and I know her love for accurate, ethical story-telling has only grown since then," said Editor Shelby Atkison. “I’m so excited for her to join our ranks and I’m eager to see what she does here.”

With experience in photography and sports writing, Swanigan will be offering her skills throughout the paper, her focus remains on community news.

“I’m excited to implement what I learned in my time as an intern as an actual staff member,” she added. “I can’t wait to get started.”
