July Chamber luncheon features presentation from health unit

Posted

The July Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon took place Monday, July 26 at the Polymath Educational Cafe. Guest speaker Scott Allen, Administrator at the Webster County Health Unit was the guest speaker, sharing an update on the current work being done at the health unit.

“The health unit offers a plethora of services that everyone in our community can benefit from,” Allen said. “A lot of people don't even know there is a health unit.”

While Allen explained the many areas of health the unit assists with, the main focus at the moment is on COVID-19. According to Allen, on May 12th healthcare providers began to think Webster County was on the downward stretch of the pandemic with one reported case. However, he explained that on July 19, that number was up to 108 and the health unit has expanded COVID service hours to offer free vaccines and testing daily at 233 E. Washington Street.

“We are doing something COVID related every day, and our mornings are basically set aside for those cases,” he added. “COVID investigations, testings, vaccines; those types of things. Daily testing is offered from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and we are also available to go out to other communities based on needs. Like tomorrow we will be out in seymore for vaccines. We are doing it by appointment… we are going to do everything we can to make it an appointment at a time that somebody can get there. As for testing, no appointment is required, just show up and we will make it happen.”

Nominations for the Chamber’s Year-End Award are now being accepted until Monday, August 2. Categories include Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Achievement in Education, Pinnacle Award in Community Service as well as Marshfieldian of the Year. Once nominations are tallied, they are then narrowed down to the top three in each category by the Chamber of Commerce board of directors and sent on a ballot to Chamber partners for a vote. Awards will be presented at the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on October 23.

Finally, future events were added to the calendar, including an Ice Cream Social at the aquatic center on August 10 as part of the Missouri Bicentennial celebration. The next Chamber of Commerce luncheon is scheduled for Monday, August 23.
