Basketball is one of many things hitting the floors this winter. In addition, high school wrestling will be joining in the season. Marshfield Mail reached out to the coaches in Webster County to get a sneak peek before the players hit the mats.
Speaking for the Wildcats Boys' and Girls’ Wrestling is Coach Jason Carter
What are your goals for the season?
Carter: We want to get better with each passing day. Our Ultimate goal is to get as many kids to the state tournament as possible.
What are you looking forward to during the season?
Carter: I look forward to spending time with the kids. They help me grow a lot as a person. I’m also looking forward to our tournaments and spending time with the kids at those tournaments.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
Carter: I enjoy watching the kids grow as wrestlers and people throughout the season. Wrestling is a challenging sport, watching them grow as people as they learn to push themselves and do more than they thought they could. That is a perfect time for me, plus the kids keep me young, as young as I can be at my current age.
Who are some players to look out for, and why?
Carter: Jackson Snider- He is a sophomore returning state qualifier. He qualified for State last year and expect big things.
Beau Thompson is our senior leader, he was a state qualifier last year, had an excellent season, and finished strong. He was in a super tough weight class, and we expect him to perform well.
Griffin Swearengen- another great senior leader for us. He has matured into a great leader. He is already showing signs of being one of our best leaders. He also was a state qualifier for us last year.
We are excited to see how the season will unfold for these teams. Keep reading the Marshfield Mail as we update you through the season.
