From the Editor: Congratulations, graduates!

Posted

To my little brother, sister, and all of the 2023 graduates who have pretty much become my adoptive siblings over the years:

I am so stinkin proud of you. Every single one of you! You did it. You’re almost finished with high school. 18 years of growing has led you to this moment. There are a few things that I want you to remember.

I pray that you always keep Jesus in your heart and let Him guide you through your first steps into adulthood, and throughout your lives.

I pray that you fearlessly explore this world and what it has to offer you. Take the job, move away, move back, change your major, chase your dreams! You’re all so smart, talented, GIFTED and you can do anything that you set your mind to.

I pray that you always see the value in what you’re doing in the present moment. Regardless of where your journey takes you, be proud of what you’re doing now and the foundation you’re paving for yourself.

I pray that you never take your family for granted and spend as much time with them as you can, even though that first taste of freedom can trick you into thinking there are more important things you could be out doing. I promise you, trust me, there’s nothing that could compare to a simple night at home with your family.

I pray that you wait for the partner that will become a Godly spouse and parent. If you’ve found your person already, consider yourself lucky. Nurture that bond and it will only grow stronger as you build your lives together.

I pray that you ALWAYS feel content with yourself. Know that you’re worth more than any material items. What you have does not define you. Everything you need will come! I hope you take time to show yourself love every single day. Wake up and look in the mirror knowing that there are so many people out there that love you and want nothing but the best for you.

I pray you never feel ashamed of who you are, or where you came from. Some of the best souls on the planet were nurtured right here in mid-Missouri and no matter how far you travel, you’ll always have a home here.

Lastly, I pray that you know I’m always a phone call, text message, Snapchat away. Ol’ Shelb will always be around.

Go out there and grab the world by your bare hands. Find what you want and know that you can make it happen. I love you all.
