First-ever Fiber Fest to offer supplies, gifts

Posted

The Marshfield Senior Center will host its first-ever Fiber Fest on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8, providing a wide range of crafting materials and supplies for local enthusiasts. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days in the center’s lower level, located at 427 W. Washington Street.

The Fiber Fest will feature a variety of items for those interested in quilting, sewing, knitting, crochet, and embroidery. The event will offer fabrics, yarn, sewing notions, patterns, and books, with all materials carefully sorted by type, including cottons, denims, knits, and acrylic yarns.

Rena Kuestersteffen, who is helping organize the event, explained that they have organized the fabric by type, with sections for different materials like denim and cotton.

“We’ve got fabric that we’re measuring out and labeling by type. We’ll also have a section called ‘Quilter’s Delight’ for those looking for fabric pieces, but not necessarily yardage,” Kuestersteffen said.

In addition to the fabrics, there will be a variety of yarns sorted by content, including acrylics and wool, as well as a selection of crochet and knitting needles.

“We’re inundated with needles, so we’re offering a large variety of crochet and knitting needles,” she added.

Books focused on quilting, knitting, and other crafts will also be available for purchase. A door prize drawing will feature a refurbished Singer sewing machine, which has been serviced and cleaned by a professional. The machine, a 1960s-era model, includes built-in decorative stitches and is suitable for a variety of sewing tasks.

The proceeds from the event will go toward the Senior Center’s building loan. Kuestersteffen noted that the idea for the event came about due to an excess of crafting materials.

“We realized we had more supplies than we could use, so we decided to hold this event and raise some funds to help pay down the building loan,” she explained.
