Elkland kicks off Play days

Posted

Friday night lights look a little different in the small community of Elkland; instead of footballs and helmets, it’s saddles and horses. The Elkland Lions Club kicked off their Play Day series this past Friday for an evening of wholesome family fun.

Brittney and Brystol Lawless spent the evening competing in a number of the planned competitions, including down and back and figure eights.

“I’m excited to get this year started and see what we can do. This is the first time she's (Brystol) actually got to participate and she's super excited,” smiled Brittney. “This is such a fun family event.”

“My favorite part was the poles,” explained six-year old Brystol. “And riding my horse Coco.”

Kaylene Marcum, Elkland Lions Club Media Coordinator, is happy to kick off the series with the a great turnout and a performance by the Southern Sweethearts, an equestrian performance team.

“Perfect weather, great crowd. The Southern Sweethearts always draw a crowd,” said Marcum. “This is the first year we added some new events like the jackpot barrel race.”

The Elkand Lions Club has the following Play Days scheduled: May 13, June 17, Aug. 19, Sep. 16 and Oct. 21 all starting at 7 p.m. at the Elkland’s Lions Club arena at 1554 State Highway AA, Elkland, MO. For more information, contact Rena at 417-838-9487.
