Eagle Scout’s project to honor veterans

Posted

Throughout many parts of America, you will find various forms of memorials; the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C., the Honolulu Memorial in HI, World War II West Coast Memorial in CA, and so on.

One girl, though, decided to make a memorial closer to home.

Lilly Stanley, a local Boy Scout from Seymour, is working on an Eagle Scout project and has partnered with the Village of Diggins. The project will be a memorial dedicated to those who have fallen and currently serve in the military.

Stanley explains that this project is worth more than just a merit badge and ranking to Eagle status.

“My whole life, there have been people in my family who have served in the military. So I wanted to dedicate something to them and others who have served.”

Stanley’s project will be located at Diggins City Park on 218 S. Diggins Main St. From there, it will incorporate the original flagpole and its concrete base while also including flags dedicated to each branch of service.

Steven is currently working in the developmental stage of her project. The goal is to raise funds so she can purchase the materials needed for the memorial, including the flagpoles and concrete.

To raise money for the project, the Village of Diggins is auctioning off a handmade “Patriotic Quilt”. Bids will be accepted leading up to Bingo Night on Oct. 22 . The winner will be announced that evening.

Steven’s plans to complete the project by Veterans Day, Nov 11, 2022.

To support this genuinely noble cause feel free to visit or call the Village of Diggins City Hall at 417-767-2395.
