Chief Duane Sanders

Leonard Duane Sanders is one of the most experienced lawmen in the county. With over three decades in law enforcement, he currently serves as Chief of the Fordland Police Department.

Sanders was born and raised in Ava, the son of former Sheriff Leonard Doil Sanders of Douglas County. Chief Duane Sanders’ father was Sheriff of Douglas from 1975 to 1988.

“I’ve been a part of law enforcement since before I was a part of law enforcement if you know what I mean,” remarked Sanders. “I basically grew up in the Sheriff’s department.”

After graduating high school, Sanders reserved for Ava for a few years before earning his first full-time position at Seymour Police Department in 1990. It was here that he earned his post certification, and even rose to become Chief of Seymour police in 2010. When not in public service, Sanders was working security for Cox Hospital. Sanders was also employed as a deputy sheriff for former Sheriff C.E. Wells

Sanders’ resume is impressive, even for a Chief. This experience helps to keep the city of Fordland safe and the department running smoothly.

“I’ve been around a while,” said Sanders. “The folks of Fordland, and the rest of Webster County have been good to me, and I hope that I can continue to serve for as long as I’m able.”
