Cheek pleads guilty to stealing

Posted

Rebecca Cheek from Marshfield pleaded guilty before Judge Chuck Replogle on April 24 for Class C Felony of Stealing $25,000 or more following a theft that occurred in 2021.

Late in 2021, Cheek and her boyfriend, Jeremy P. Lesser, were hired to help an at-home elderly citizen. When the victim had to be hospitalized, the couple was asked to stay at the citizen's home and care for it. While there, Cheek discovered a safe and asked Lesser to look. The safe contained various items and $30,000 in cash. Lesser then had the idea to take the money and leave town. Cheek, at first, was reluctant but ultimately decided to go along with the plan. The two spent the money on items for Lesser's van, tools, clothing, and motel rooms in Branson.

During an investigation by the Marshfield Police Department, Cheek was questioned and confessed to her and Lesser's involvement in the theft.

She pleaded out and will now be on parole for five years under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole. Cheek must also pay a total restitution of $31,000 at a fixed rate starting this month.

For his involvement, Lesser is expected to appear in court with Judge Justin Evans presiding on June 27.
