The Blue Jays found themselves at another meet; the Southwest Baptist University (SBU) High School Invitational (Class 4-5) on April 25. SBU produced healthy competition for the Jays, resulting in both PR’s and room for improvement.

“Today has been a lot of ups and downs…just an off day for some athletes and some of them needed it. I think just to understand that not every meet is going to be your best meet. We've had a lot of success so far this year and we haven't experienced much disappointment. So experiencing that sometimes is part of growth,” explained Head Track and Field Coach Roy Kaderly.  “With districts, sectional and state on the horizon, getting these days out the way and using them as motivation for the next two weeks to come.”

However, three more school records would be shattered before the end of the day. Senior Peyton McBride, ranked No. 1 in Triple Jump in Class 4, set the record once again for the MHS Boys Triple Jump with a jump of 14.51M. For the third time this season, the Boys 4x100M bested their own record with a time of 43.66. The cherry on top for the Blue Jays was Senior Cooper Kimrey’s performance in the 200M dash. Kimrey broke the 32-year old MHS 200M record with a stunning time of 22.89.

“Cooper Kimrey broke the 200 meter dash record, which was set back in 1990,” praised Kaderly. “Cooper’s really coming along and deserves every bit of it. He has been working his tail off everyday and putting in the extra work to make himself better. I am really, really excited and happy for Cooper.”
