Rogersville junior Jay Strausbaugh makes a push in the 1600-meter run, where he would finish fourth in Missouri Class 4 after posting a new personal best time of 4:25.77.

Logan-Rogersville Wildcats distance runner Jay Strausbaugh traveled to the Missouri Class 4 state championship track and field meet in Washington on Saturday and came home with a pair of medals and a new personal best time in the 1600-meter run.

Strausbaugh, a junior, competed in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter running events. In the latter, he finished in 10 minutes and 0.91 seconds to come in behind just five other Missouri Class 4 runners. The time was about 11 seconds behind his best showing at the district meet, but it was sufficient to put a medal around his neck.

In the shorter run, though, the junior managed to outpace his previous best time by one-and-a-half seconds. The four-minute, 25.77-second effort earned him a fourth-place medal.

Fellow Wildcat athlete Adam Waters, meanwhile, fell just outside of a medalling placement in the high jump, taking ninth in the event. The junior’s six-foot, two-inch clearance was the same as seven other jumpers, prompting a tie-breaker determination that put one other athlete just above Waters for the eighth place slot.

Both juniors are likely to return to the track for senior campaigns in the spring 2020 season.
